Mississippi Kites nesting in NYS

A pair of Mississippi Kites has been observed courting, mating and “nesting” at Sterling Forest in New York State. The pair has been identified as an adult male and sub-adult female, and are consistently seen daily from the Visitor’s Center parking lot in mornings (before 9am) and evenings (after 5pm.)

When RF and I visited, the male was seen catching dragonflies and eating “on the wing” and then perched in a dead tree for a good 30 minutes.
