Nature Begins at Home

After this weekend’s early morning adventure to Morgan Mudflats in South Amboy, RF and I tried desperately to beat the heat. With few options, we decided to stay closer to home! We ventured over to the recreation area of the complex, and shared a wonderful day of discovery in our own “backyard.”

Highlights include:

  • staying cool at the pond — and discovering at least 9 species of Dragonflies/Damselflies
  • a hike in the woods behind the complex racked up a decent bird list
  • A neighbor’s hummingbird feeder lured in a female Ruby Throated Hummingbird!

The photos below were taken over a three day period – but go to show you that to appreciate nature, sometimes all you have to do is  look around you!

The fountain proved to be a great way to cool off.

The pond was full of life!

Dragonflies everywhere!

Lots of hidden surprises!

even flying jewels!
